Welcome to Sir Mo Farah Class

 

Term 1 - All About Me

This term we will be learning about our bodies and how amazing they are. We will also be learning lots about each others families and their similarities and differences. In our Phonics we will be following the Read Write Inc scheme and will learning the Set 1 sounds. There will be a opportunity for you to attend a Phonics workshop later on in the term, where you will gain a greater understanding of how your child will be learning to read. This term in our Maths we will be focusing on numbers to 5.

Our Christian Value this term is Endurance and our Learn to Learn Value is Readiness.

 

Term 2 - Festivals and Celebrations

Our topic in Term 2 will be Festivals and Celebrations. In this term we will be looking at a variety of celebrations, some of which they have had prior experience of and some will be new. One of which will be Christmas and the children will take part in a Nativity performance with Year 1 and Year 2. Information about this to follow. In our Phonics, the children will continue to learn Set 1 sounds and be introduced to reading ditties (short pieces of text). In Maths, we will be continuing to build on and compare numbers to 7 and introducing the children to simple addition and subtraction. Our Christian Value this term is Hope and our Learn to Learn Value is Resilience. 

 

Term 3 - Julia Donaldson

Our topic this term is Julia Donaldson, where the children will be exposed to a wonderful variety of Julia Donaldson stories, including some of her most famous stories such as The Gruffalo and Snail and the Whale. In our Phonics, the children will be introduced to some Set 2 sounds and storybooks. Through their Phonic knowledge, the children will begin to write words and simple sentences. In Maths, we will be working on numbers to 10, including identifying number bonds, automatically recalling number facts and the composition of numbers. Our Christian Value this term is Friendship and our Learn to Learn Value is Respect. 

 

Term 4 - Spring

Our topic this term is Spring, where the children will explore seasonal changes and the joy of new life. This topic lends itself to our RE topic which is Easter, where the children will learn the importance of the Easter story and what it means to us. In our Phonics, the children will continue to work on Set 2 sounds, becoming more fluent with their decodable books. This will help build confidence in word reading, fluency, understanding and enjoyment. In Maths, we will be continuing to master numbers to 10 and investigating comparisons between length and height. Our Christian Value this term is Forgiveness and our Learn to Learn Value is Reflection. 

 

Term 5 - People Who Help Us

Our topic this term is People Who Help Us, firstly at home, school and in the wider community. In this term, we have lots of visits from various people who talk about the jobs they do and how they help us in our day to day lives. In our Phonics, the children will continue to learn/use Set 2 sounds. The main focus will be making phonetically plausible attempts when writing more complex words. This will include the use of finger spaces between words. In Maths, the children will be working on building and identifying numbers to 20 and more complex addition and subtraction. Our Christian Value is Trust and our Learn to Learn Value is Responsibility. 

 

Term 6 - Holidays

Our topic this term is Holidays, where the children will be given the opportunity to talk and reflect on holidays they have been on, places they have visited and places they have been. Explore different countries, modes of transport, now and in the past. In Phonics, the children be enjoying their reading and will be able to demonstrate an understanding of what they have read. In their writing, the children will be able to write recognisable letters, words and sentences. In Maths, the children will enjoy looking at number patterns, including doubling and sharing. Our Christian Value is Compassion and our Learn to Learn Value is Resourcefulness. 

 

As always in EYFS, we follow the children's interests and are excited to see where the topics take us. You will kept informed and updated by our class DOJO, a platform for us to come together and share learning moments and photographs. A great additional way to keep in touch. The children love sharing these moments with you.
