Welcome to Term 6!

We hope you had a lovely half term break. It is so wonderful to finally have some glorious sunny days. This also works well for our new topic - The Secret Garden- which will involve growing and discovering what else lives in our garden.  We will also be learning about maps in geography, so plenty of outdoor route finding activities.  We will also take advantage of the good weather to learn about tennis and we will be hosting a sports day. Just some of the things to look forward to this term.

Dear Parent and Carers,

I hope you all had a lovely Easter holidays and enjoyed the many sunny days.

Welcome to the Summer term.  We are really looking forward to welcoming the children back to what promises to be an exciting term. As you know this terms topic is called Once upon a time and we will start our topic by looking at traditional tales or fairy tales, including alternative versions. I have put the parent overview with key messages on our web page and there will be a hard copy for the children to take home on Monday.

 As requested last term, if you have any books which the children can share- please label with your name – they can be brought in tomorrow and we will quarantine them for use later in the week.

I have decided to look at painting in Art and would be grateful if you have any broadsheet newspaper that you could send in to cover the tables. Just one or two from your child would do – or I might be inundated.  I will put a box in the playground for you to put any in. Thank you.

This term we will be using the children’s reading records again and so could you send them in. If they are full or lost, we have some we can give out.  PE kits – we will be doing PE on a Tuesday and Thursday but please send in their PE kits to stay in lockers for the term.

Mrs Gooding has sent out a letter with all the latest guidance but just a reminder Sir David Attenborough start time is 8.50am and end time will be 3.20pm.  I will be in the playground tomorrow morning if you have any further questions. Thank you.

Happy New Year everyone and welcome to Term 3.

We always think this is the hardest term because the weather is often miserable and the days short and dark; but we also think this is the term when children have settled into friendships and are familiar with class routines meaning they often really start to make visible progress. You may notice this at home, particularly with their reading and writing.

We also need to remember that 2020 was an unusual year and 2021 isn’t improving yet!  Consequently, both home and school life may have changed (sometimes in a positive way, sometimes not). Children may be missing out on socialising outside of school, and they may also be affected by how the adults around them are feeling and picking up on what is happening in the news. We will be doing lots of talking about our emotions, how they might make us feel and how we can learn to deal with them.  Our Learn to Learn focus of Respect and our Christian Value of Friendship will also support us with this.

Our topic for this term is one of our favourites, and is usually very popular with the children -  The Great Fire of London. You will be receiving a knowledge organiser for your child, and an overview for yourself to let you know what we hope to cover in Term 3. Going through the Knowledge organiser with your child will help them to retain the learning, further their understanding and develop their interest to find out more. You could also use the knowledge organiser to do little quizzes to see how much your child has remembered during the term.

PE will take place in the hall on Thursday afternoon. Weather permitting, we may get outside, so a change of footwear is still necessary if school shoes aren’t appropriate.

Fruit deliveries will continue, and milk if you have ordered it. Children may bring in their own snack if they prefer, but we do try to encourage fresh fruit rather than anything else. If you do send in something from home please be aware that most children would rather spend their playtime running around with their friends, so try not to send in too much as it doesn’t usually get eaten!

Water bottles should be labelled if in school and please only contain water, unless you have spoken to us otherwise.

Reading books will continue to be changed as and when your child needs them changing. But please be mindful that it’s important that children read the book more than once to help with comprehension of text etc. It is also important that books are returned to school otherwise we do run short. 30 children each taking 1 or 2 books does mean that a lot of books are going home each time, and if they don’t return to school our reading scheme will become very depleted very quickly.

Year 2 will continue with Spellings on Friday.

Year 1 will have a letter going home about the reading challenge set for them this term.

Dear Sir David Attenborough class parents and children,

We hope you have all had a wonderful half term break and managed to rest whilst also having fun too. This term is going to be an exciting one, with lots of learning and fun taking place. Our topic this term is 'Fire! Fire!' with the stimulus being Guy Fawkes. In English we will be recounting the story of Guy Fawkes, creating some wonderful firework poetry and even having a go at reciting our favourite poem as a class. During the term we will also be using effective patterns to help us when creating our firework art. We have attached a copy of our knowledge organiser which shows what the children will be learning during the term. You might want to use this for mini quizzes to test your child's memory as the term progresses.  

Finally..... we are also putting together our Christmas Nativity 'A Bundle of Joy' which we are really excited about and can't wait to show you through the magic of film. Please remember to keep checking our Class Dojo page for regular updates on what is happening in our class, along with key messages and amazing learning photos from the week.

Well Class 1 you have all made it to half term.... yey!!

Mrs Greening and I would like to say a huge well done for working so hard over the last few weeks and now it is time to rest yourselves and your precious brains. Maybe this week you might bake something new, or try a new food, you might even spot a new animal or flower in your garden or during a walk that you hadn't seen before. Whatever you do this week, remember to look after yourself and the people you live with and keep safe.
